Popbasic Ariel Micro Collection Unboxing

Hello, friends! It’s been a minute since I filmed a Popbasic unboxing, and that’s just what I’m here to share today! Popbasic’s micro collection for March, Ariel, is really inspired — though I should say was because it’s sold out! This is kind of tragic, as the color palette was perfect for those in the Southern Hemisphere who are going into the colder months, and the pieces are perfect for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere who are looking forward to the warmer months ahead. The collection consisted of their basic tank in charcoal, and two *gorgeous, gorgeous* necklaces — Ariel, which is a vibrant cobalt blue, and Crystal Rainbow, which is a warm iridescent rainbow of colors!   Let me back up for those who aren’t familiar with Popbasic. The small, San Francisco based company was founded by two Aussie’s named Maddy and Coen — and, yes, they’re in love. :o) The founding idea is to help a women build her wardrobe one collection at a time by adding basics (in this case …

BOXYCHARM March 2015

Today is Day Three of Unboxing Week, and I’ll be sharing my BOXYCHARM with you. :o) Day One was March’s Popsugar box, Day Two was ipsy vs Birchbox, and today I will not only share March’s BOXYCHARM box, but also the new subscription that will be replacing BOXYCHARM on AVD. Let’s get to it! You read correctly, this is the last month I’ll be reviewing BOXYCHARM. I’ve enjoyed this subscription, but I’m ready to move on and try something new. This Month’s theme is Lucky Charm, and the box brought subscribers four full-size items and one travel size-item all valued at $112 (BOXYCHARM is a $21-per-month, cancel-when-you-like subscription). It’s a cute theme Lucky Charm… BOXYCHARM. It fits. Plus St. Paddy’s day was this month. I wish that BOXYCHARM had taken the opportunity to get a jump start on spring and Easter themes though. Easter is next weekend, and their boxes don’t arrive until the end of the month so (once again) they’re going to miss the boat on this holiday. Oscar Blandi Travel Size Hairspray I love Oscar Blandi products! …

Ipsy vs Birchbox March 2015

We’re back for Day Two of March’s unboxing posts! Yesterday’s unboxing was Popsugar. Tomorrow’s will be Boxycharm and a new-to-AVD subscription, but today’s is ipsy vs Birchbox — and both were fantastic collections. So, let’s get to it! Look at those colors! Don’t they amp up your excitement for spring!? They sure affect me that way. Although most of us know how ipsy and Birchbox work, I don’t want to assume all of us do, so here’s the spiel… Ipsy and Birchbox are $10-per-month subscriptions (including shipping). If you’re considering subscribing to one or the other, ipsy tends toward the makeup side of beauty, whereas Birchbox is more well-rounded. Also, I think ipsy tends to ship brands that are well known in the U.S., whereas Birchbox is great for introducing subscribers to a range of high-end products from around the globe. ipsy Since we started with Birchbox last month, let’s start with ipsy this month. March’s ipsy them is Floral Fantasy with the goal to “wake up your imagination with a crazy beautiful explosion of flowers.” This is one …

Popsugar March 2015

It’s unboxing week!!! Yay!!! Popsugar is kicking off the week (happy dance). If you checked out my December, January, and February boxes, you’ll remember that Popsugar released some exquisitely-curated ones — I’d go so far as to say each was better than the one before. But, this was a trend that I couldn’t expect to continue forever. March’s box is a fantastic one when compared to similar subscriptions, but when sized up against other Popsugar collections, it just doesn’t quite stand up. If you’re not familiar with POPSUGAR Must Have, it’s a well-rounded, $39.95 per month subscription that features items every it girl must have — from fashion to fitness, gourmet goodies to beauty essentials and more. POPSUGAR also offers discounts on three-, six- and twelve-month subscriptions. Click here if you’re interested in learning more. March’s box was inspired by ideas such as “renewal, citrus, spring break, fresh, and traveling.” These are all words that sing to my heart which longs for spring!  Let’s take a peek at the product card: And, here’s a sneak peek inside the box… The first …

Mani(cure) Monday: F.U.N Lacquer’s Royal Chapel

Happy Monday! I’m posting just a quick Mani(cure) Monday today, as I’m working today and am short on time. I had to make a little time though to ask you if you have tried any polishes from F.U.N Lacquer? Holy smokes, if you haven’t, you need to! Look at that sparkle! The F.U.N Lacquer website explains that higher-than-normal quality glitter is responsible for the enhanced sparkle their polishes boast. I’m wearing their holographic Royal Chapel. Above you see it in  direct sunlight, whereas below you see it in indirect sunlight. I assumed that a polish designed to be this beautiful wouldn’t last too long, but I was wrong. I wore the above manicure for five days with minimal tip wear. All F.U.N Lacquer polishes are 4-free as well as cruelty free. Click here to see their current line of gorgeous polishes.   And, just for fun, here is a spring manicure using Royal Chapel (ring finger). I hope that you have a fantastic week! Here’s to hoping work goes smoothly and that there’s plenty of time for enjoyment. …

The Year of Charlotte Tilbury: The Marsala-Hued Luxury Palette

Last fall my husband and I took a quick trip to London. How quick? Just a day and a half. We had a lovely day full full of touristy things, and, being more than just a little curious about Charlotte Tilbury, I made sure to make time to hit Selfridges for some beauty-blogger beauty-counter damage. I succeeded in getting myself hooked. So, in January I began a new monthly post with the goal of getting familiarized with Charlotte Tilbury’s line of gorgeous products — call it my New Year’s resolution! March’s acquisition is Tilbury’s Luxury Palette that fits right in to 2015’s Marsala trend — The Vintage Vamp. The palette takes Marsala right through its various shades, from golden-champagne to an oxidized ruby. But that’s not all, Tilbury’s Luxury Palettes are designed to take us through the day — from desk to dusk to disco. Read on to learn more about her tricks. Tilbury has the following to say about her ingenious eyeshadow palettes: “The power to mesmerize is in your eyes, with this makeup hypnotize… I …

Mani(cure) Monday: Happy St. Patrick’s Day

Happy St. Patrick’s Day (tomorrow). Do you believe in luck, or do you believe in hard work and initiative? I believe in a little bit of both, but at any rate, you’re in luck because I have two St. Paddy’s Day manicures to share with you this week! St. Patrick’s Day Manicure #1 For this manicure I wanted to go bold, so I opted for bright and vibrant green with plenty of glittery gold. The Polishes: The green, Formula X’s Supersonic, was applied to my thumb and as the base color for my middle finger. Applied over Supersonic on my middle finger, and forming asymmetric brush strokes is Drawn To You — a cooler, champagne-colored gold with green glitter. And, on my ring and pinkie fingers is Bond, Iconic Bond — a true found-at-the-end-of-the-rainbow glittery gold with the micro glitter to prove it. All three of these polishes lasted the four days I wore this mani without signs of wear and tear. The standout St. Paddy’s polish of the three has to be Drawn To You. While Supersonic and Bond, Iconic …
