The Year of Charlotte Tilbury: Tilbury’s Collaboration with Norman Parkinson

Hi, friend!

Welcome to the July installment of The Year of Charlotte Tilbury! If you follow the Tilbury hype at all, then you’ve been seeing and hearing lots about her new collaboration with the famous British fashion photographer, Norman Parkinson.

The collaboration sprung from Tilbury’s love of Parkinson’s photography. After frequently seeing Parkinson’s photography featured on Tilbury’s Instagram account, Parkinson’s grandson, Jake Parkinson, the current director of the Norman Parkinson Archive, approached Tilbury about a collaboration, and voilà, a match made in heaven was born!

Although I would have loved to have everything, I purchased four items from the limited-edition release. They’re even more glorious than I had imagined, inspiring me to keep them in a prominent place on the vanity… and of course to use and enjoy them as well!

The Haul

I selected the two compacts from the Charlotte Tilbury / Norman Parkinson collection, as well as the two newest Matte Revolution lipsticks. You know how big of a fan I am of her mattes!

Dreamy Glow Highlighter

This is a lovely, subtle highlighter, and the experience of luxury is definitely boosted by the gorgeous case it comes in. Tilbury has said that the powder “creates ‘peaches and cream,’ dreamy skin” and that it’s the “perfect blend of pearl and pigment to enhance your complexion, scattering light and opalescence across the features, transitioning skin from winter to golden summer in one easy swipe.” Carmen Dell’Orefice is the chic woman gracing the lid of this rose-gold, old-hollywood glamour compact. My flimsy cheekbones need all the help they can get, and, although subtle, this powder does pack a highlighting punch!

Colour of Youth

This cream blusher is easy to use and, in my opinion, a universally flattering pinky coral. Wenda Parkinson, the famed photographer’s wife and greatest muse, is the beautiful woman on the lid of Tilbury’s Colour of Youth Happy, Healthy Lip & Cheek Glow. Tilbury has said that, feeling inspired by the enduring love between this couple, she created this color while thinking about the “blush of love and happiness that keeps you youthful forever.” What I love most about this product, besides its lovely shade, is that it’s easy to apply and blends flawlessly, while also adding an undeniable flush to the cheeks.

Matte Revolution Lipstick in Miss Kensington and 1975 Red

Miss Kensington is far from the pale, lip fading shade that I had imagined. You know, that paler-than-lips 1960’s bubblegum pink that only three percent of the population can pull off. Being a Tilbury fan, though, I had to try out this Matte Revolution, as well. I was pleasantly surprised to find that, while it is the rose-petal hue that Tilbury promises, it could also be considered part of the nude family — something much more up my alley (Look below in the Miss Kensington section to see for yourself.)

I’m fairly cautious about making blanket statements, but 1975 Red has to be the most stunning red I’ve ever seen. It’s not just that it’s a *gorgeous,* highly pigmented and concentrated persimmon red, but that it also blends seamlessly with the lips while wearing for *hours* like a dream. When you do finally sit down for a meal, this red wears naturally, leaving you looking like a natural beauty instead of a beauty blunder, like so many long-lasting lipsticks can.

“My Matte Revolution lipstick is designed to create the illusion of fuller, wider lips that look lit from within. It’s a trick I use all the time on photo shoots, using lighting trickery, pigments and powders, and I have been working for years to re-create this effect in the slick of one lipstick. Matte Revolution’s formula soothes and hydrates the lips for a soft, buildable cashmere finish.”

The Art of the Vanity With a Little Help From Charlotte Tilbury

As with all of Tilbury’s products, and not just this heavenly collaboration with Parkinson, these beautiful compacts scream to be displayed. They inspire me to care for my space, as well as for myself — by picking them up to apply a brush stroke of highlight to my cheeks or a dash of crimson to my lips before slipping out the door for a day of work or play.

“Sun-kissed and sexy, as if she were lit from within, Miss 1975 is a homage to Jerry Hall’s first Vogue cover shot by Norman Parkinson. This gorgeous look creates a flawlessly dewy complexion, bright sunset red lips and mesmerising eyes. Ooze 1970’s glamour everyday with a fresh, modern update.”

Besides the lipstick and cream blush, I didn’t have much in the way of the makeup that Tilbury used to create her Miss 1975 look, so I improvised using similar shades. Do you see what I mean about this red!? It’s incredible!

“Flushed with the glow of youth, Miss Kensington channels the soft focus sensuality and dreamy diffused light of Norman Parkinson’s photos of his 1960’s muses: Audrey Hepburn, Twiggy and his wife Wenda. Recreate the look with rose petal lips, a perfect cashmere complexion and sensational sixties lashes.”

Unlike my experience creating Tilbury’s Miss 1975, I did have most of the makeup items used to create the Miss Kensington look. I wore this for an evening out with my husband, but it’s a subtle enough look that I would have felt comfortable wearing this during the day, as well. Do you see what I mean about the Miss Kensington Matte Revolution being a creamy, rose-petal nude?

  1. Beautiful look! CT products look so nice. I tell myself someday since I have too many beauty obsessions. I got my first stamping plates today inspired by your nail posts. I did not go with Moyou though. Thanks for sharing your beautiful pictures & collection with us!

    • Hi, Cos. Yes, for sure one day you owe it to yourself to pick up a CT product or two. I’d recommend waiting until you can get to a Nordstrom where she has a boutique. Then you’ll get the full experience and get to play with her line!
I’m excited to see your nails all stamped up!! It’s a ton of fun (though it can be a little frustrating in the beginning). Did I see that you ended up with some of the Hello Kitty decals??

      • That would be cool to see her boutique. They don’t have CT at the Nordstrom stores here last I saw at least. Yes, I have Hello Kitty stickers on my nails. I got a pack months ago for $1 or something like that. The beautiful NCLA Hello Kitty nail wraps that were just released inspired me to put the stickers on. The stickers are nowhere near as nice, but < $1 vs $18 can't complain. Have a wonderful week!

    • Dreamy is the perfect adjective! Her makeup is amazing, and yes (!), if you get the chance to pick up the cream blush — by all means do so! It’s great!!
Thanks for saying hi :0) XO

I’m loving everything I see here! Those lipsticks are such beautiful shades! They look so beautiful on you Jacqueline! I love those compacts as well! Such a great collaboration! Thanks for sharing! I hope you’re having a great start to the week! 🙂 XO

    • Hi, Katie! Yes, the compacts are special. The surprise standout for me though is the 1975 Red. It’s amazing!!
My week is off to a great start, lol. I got the nice surprise of being put on call today (and never got called in!). It’s nice to have that happen every once in awhile. I got a lot done around the house, and a post done to boot! How’re you? I’m excited about your upcoming collaborations with the Etsy and jewelry gals! They sound fun!!

      • plus+beauty27 says

Hi Jacqueline! That 1975 Red looks amazing on you! It’s such a perfect red!
Glad to hear that your week is off to a good start. I bet it feels good to good things done around the house. I am doing very good thank you! I am excited about the collaborations too! I know one thing should be coming in the mail anytime soon and just now I was in the works of looking at jewelry I liked to pick out. It will be nice to do a little something different on my blog. I have been wanting to expand on it a bit more. 🙂

      • I know what you mean about expanding. For me it’s important to feel like what I’m doing is worthwhile, and for me that means that it’s satisfying for me creatively… I’m obviously not doing this for money for free stuff, as none of that is happening for me. It’s all about having fun! So, creative license to expand our horizons is up to us, right?!
I’m excited to see what you come up with. XOXO

    • Thanks, Joy!! 1975 Red really knocked my socks off. I’m loving it all though.
Thanks for saying hi. Hope you’re doing well. XO

  3. The Classic Beauty of this Golden Era is greatly encapsulated by CT and Mr. Parkinson’s collab. Genius!

  4. Very pretty packaging courtesy CT -Parkinson magic . Beautiful shades of lipstick and I liked the compacts too. Your photos are amazing.

    • Aww. Thanks for the sweet compliment! CT can do no wrong in my eyes! Love, love, love her line. Thanks for saying hi! I hope your week is going well. XO

  5. Love this post! I couldn’t bring myself to purchase these items (no matter how lovely they are) but at least I can enjoy seeing them here. Lovely look. 🙂

    • Thanks, Stephie! I honestly didn’t think I was going to purchase anything from the collaboration, but Janet and I kind of egged each other on, LOL. Wouldn’t guess that, would you? I’m so glad I did though, bc I love it all (especially the 1975 Red).
How are you!? I hope all is going well. XO

      • Oh the world of beauty blogging! It’s a love hate thing because do we really need that versus we must have that, lol. I was going back and forth with Janet too and I just decided no-a miracle. Plus the cream FSBG was what I had my eyes on and sadly it wasn’t sold by itself. So glad you’re enjoying the collection though- looks great on you. I’m doing good thanks for asking. 😊 Hope you’re doing great too! 💕

      • I’m sure you already know, but Beautylish will have the cream FSBG once their site launches the collab!!! 😁😁

  6. This collection is so amazing! It was so immensely difficult to restrict myself to a single item, but I picked up the Color of Youth Cheek and Lip Glow and it is amazing ♥ I absolutely love it.
The highlighter and lipsticks look amazing as well 😀 Love the red lippy on you 😀
    xxx Anne

    • Yes! Isn’t the Colour of Youth super easy to use and just *so* pretty?! I love it as well. CT is magical… That’s all there is to it. No worries about just picking up one item! There are plenty of other lovelies in our future, right?!
      Hope you’re doing well. XO

      • Very magical 😀 And it just looks so amazing. Cannot wait to take this out of my handbag for a touch up (A)
Doing well, persevering with the DIY…I prefer designing it, not implementing it turns out.
Have you settled back in after your magical Paris trip? xx

      • I hope your moving projects are going well! And, yes, we’re settled in post-Paris now. I wish we were back there (!), though we do have exciting things happening here in so. Utah that makes it easier to be home :0)
        Happy Friday!

  7. Great picks ma belle! I didn’t made my move with this one still… But I will soon enough! Love Miss Kensington look on you more! That’s the one I’m gravitating towards as well! But we’ll see!
    Have a great week ahead!
Lots of bisous! Annie | Annie’s Beauty

    • Hi, Annie! How’s ma belle?
I’m still loving these beauties! I’m glad I bit the bullet and picked up what I did. I think Miss Kensington would look beautiful on you, though I have to say that 1975 Red completely knocked my socks off. Wow! It’s a stunning red! It wears like a dream too. Andy and I had dinner last night at a cute little restaurant we love about an hour’s drive away. My lipstick stayed pristine through dinner, wearing only lightly. After dinner I applied a little coat of my fresh lip treatment and my 1975 Red looked impeccable again. It’s magic!
I hope you’re week is going well. It’s almost Friday!!
Lots of love, ma belle. XO

      • Whoaaa! I love that Red as well! I will get it as well! I still didn’t made my mind and have no idea what to get! But I will definitely get Red, now that you love it so much! 😁😁😁
        It’s Friday already! Thank goodness!
I hope everything is fine with you!
        Sending you lots of bisous,
        Annie | Annie’s Beauty

  8. Gorgeous post Jackie! I really love your review, swatches and pictures. Both collections look stunning and tempting: it’s very hard to make a selection between the two…not to mention the packaging, which is refined down to the last detail as usual for Mrs Tilbury. That mat coral red suits you wonderfully.

    • Thanks, Alessia! Yes, that red is amazing! I don’t know how CT continues to exceed my expectations, but I love that she does. She cultivates the excitement that was familiar to me as a little girl when I would get to try lip gloss or eyeshadow. You know? I feel completely sophisticated using her items, but also excited by them. That’s what makeup should do, I think. CT is amazing!
      Hope you’re doing well! Xo

  9. Looks wonderful! Miss Kensington looks so lovely on you! Great haul 🙂 I still haven’t bitten the bullet hehehe sitting on the fence with the red lippy. But I feel like I need the highlighter powder in my life

    • Augh! They are wonderful! If you feel like you need the highlighter in your life, then I agree… you do! It’s a lovely highlighter, and there’s no compact anywhere that can beat this one. It’s gorgeous! …such a pleasure to use and enjoy! Thanks for saying hi!! I hope you’re doing well. XO

    • Thanks, Stephanae! I’m partial to the red as well, and it’s been interesting to read the feedback and learn most people like the Miss Kensington look. Just goes to show what we personally prefer isn’t always what others see as most flattering. I’m glad you’re on team red to though!
Thanks for saying hi! It was a fun post to write! I hope your week is treating you great. Lots of XO

  10. Well done! At some point I will own CT products! 😉 They’re just so beautiful and I love how they look on you.

    • Thanks, Jen! CT is a magical mad genius of makeup!! You’ll love her stuff once you get the chance to try it out. XO

    • Hi, Tanya. I am enjoying my goodies for sure! CT and Norman Parkinson equals perfection!! 😁
      Hope you’re doing well :0)

  11. I’m absolutely loving the rose gold and vintage packaging! What an amazing collaboration! Norman Parkinson’s works are amazing and I’m glad to see a collaboration between two artists specializing in their own “creative art forms”. Thanks for sharing this Jacqueline! 🙂 xo~ Lena

    • Hehe. So sorry, but I’m sure you’ll love them, so I don’t feel too bad. 😉💕 this collaboration is a match made in heaven. I’ve been loving both of these cheek products and reaching for them more and more. Let me know if you end up picking them up!!
Thanks again for thinking of me for the quote challenge! 😘

  12. Wow, amazing collection and the photography on the packaging are beautiful! Too bad it’s LE, I will just have to admire from afar! The cream blush looks fantastic on you – thanks so much for the detailed photos and info. 🙂

    • Darn! Is the collection not available in your area? I’m sorry :0( I wonder if she’ll make it available again as she expands her locations. The packaging really is dreamy!
I hope you have a great week!
